Run with me now. Teach me everything. Show me everything.
Stay close by my side, big brother. Wise brother.
You go and I will follow,
it matters not where.

The horizon beckons us big brother.

Sorry about the allusion to 1984- it just fit too well as a title. Finally something I'm really satisfied with came out of Terragen and from there I jumped into Photoshop and went postwork-crazy on it.
Comments and crits would be cool- leave all your thoughts that you feel like.

Total Time:

~15-20 Hours

Time spent on that blasted group of palm trees:

~2 Hours.

I understand the incorrect nature of the planet's opacity etc. and have tried to fix it (for about an hour) with no luck at all. I hope you can enjoy the piece regardless and just appreciate the "look" of it in spite of its realistic flaws.

This would be a killer if ... yeah - the planet ;) You know what I mean, but other than that, stunning stuff dude.
Exntrik Featured By Owner Jun 16, 2005
Yea that planet basically turned the piece into a 20 hour exercise >< , Oh well - I was happy with the rest and it was super good postwork practice (you should see the render, pretty funny stuff). See ya around.

...1 more week and I /we can get some real art kickin'!

unclejemima Featured By Owner Jun 6, 2005
Love it. You know I'm a sucker for the surrealistic pieces :D Other than a few minor points I think look a little off, it's awesome work; I only wish that the fullsize quality was more apparent... either way - :+fav: man. Enough said.

Thats some amazing blending skill.

I love the piece ehre but those light flares do look a littke odd to me :)
loucards325 Featured By Owner Jun 5, 2005  Hobbyist Interface Designer
WOW! the terrain, beach, palm trees (time well spent ;) ), and people look just amazing. I think you can see too much of the planet from where it is situated. It also looks almost in front of the clouds. The atmosphere should dim a good portion of it.

Great overall!
WishRM Featured By Owner Jun 5, 2005
WOW, simply do you get that blur yet sharpened effect?
Exntrik Featured By Owner Jun 5, 2005
It's simpy a matter of working with overlay layers and such.
WishRM Featured By Owner Jun 5, 2005
Sounds interesting :D

If it wasn't for only a few things, as minor as they might seem, the picture would have been your best so far. I know genocide took critique well, let's see if Exntrik has a good digestive system :)

:bulletred: The first thing I noticed scrolling upwards was the planet. I know ya got experience and all that.. but even though I trust your judgement, I still think that it would look far better (more fitting if you like) if the planet was transparent.. y'know.. it looks like it's hovering over those hills/dunes right now.
:bulletred: The stars/suns. one is just fine, but three are just too many. I believe that getting rid of the topmost sun would settle the issue.

:bulletgreen: The pink may bother some people.. not me. I think it serves its purpose well in breaking the monotony which the blue, green and yellow might cause ;)
:bulletgreen: This has to be one of the best-looking deviations I've seen from ya.. again, if there's a way to "fix" the things I've mentioned before, or making a mod/revision, it'd look better.

Job well done Brennan ;)
Exntrik Featured By Owner Jun 5, 2005
Thanks alot for the crits mate- I hope exntrik can do something with 'em ;)

I've had enough comments already on the planet to sway my oppinion- when I get around to it Ill update that and then the print.
The sun issue is one Ill have to consider.

I appreciate the time you put into helping me out- take it easy bud and Ill see ya around.

Looks great. You did a wonderful job on the palm trees :) The time spent on them pays off. The water and the beach are just delicous. I don't really know what those grey explosion clouds :p do there. Is that vulcanic stuff or something??
The planet being so easily seen through the atmosphere isn't quite realistic, nor is the fact that the clouds come so suddenly to an abrupt end. (suddenly, abrupt. hmmmm) As far as the idea goes, I'm really feeling this. I myself have a big brother, so ugggm, yup...
Great job. Keep it up ^^

I'm diggin those palm trees
PlasmaX7 Featured By Owner Jun 5, 2005
Awesome! I dig the beach especially. I'll let you know what's going on with our collab very soon :)

Btw - that main planet looks a little in front of the clouds.

its kind of touching... i never had a big brother, but i know how my younger brothers look up to me... i really like this a lot...
as for the technical aspect of it, the suns are a bit... wierd... maybe too saturated. the planet shouldnt be quite that visible in the atmosphere, and the clouds could be a bit brighter, since everything else in the image is so bright, it doesnt really match.
